Born in Seoul, Korea, Hyungwon Ryoo came to the United States in 1991 to pursue his passion in photography. After completing his B.F.A. at Rochester Institute of Technology, he moved to New York City to attend School of Visual Arts and completed his master’s degree in photography. He started his assistantship under fashion, beauty, and celebrity photogapher, Dahlen, for four years and moved on to assist numerous top photographers, such as, Craig McDean, Mark seliger, Michel Comte, and Mark Abrahams. He started to shoot on his own since 2005. He has regularly shot for publications, such as Vogue Korea, Bazaar Korea, Elle Korea, Marie Claire Korea, as well as British Tatler, mostly photographing top models for their covers and main fashion and beauty stories. He also works with major global fashion and beauty brands including Nike, Puma, Fila, Biotherm, Lancome, L’Oreal, Amore Pacific, Neutrogena, to name a few. He currently works and resides in Seoul, Korea, and New York City.
